I was just reading a post from Sharon-NC about her first quilt and her button collection. I have no button collection but have heard many of you talk about yours. Would anyone care to show pics of button collections? I would enjoy seeing them.

Me too...I love buttons. When I'm at an LQS or a show, I love to check out the buttons!

Holy Cow! I would love to show mine, but there are too many. I have been collecting them since I started sewing.
I found a button box in an attic many years ago and that is how it started. I am not going to say how long that is, but, trust me, it is a long time.

To add to my whole button collecting thing, many of my friends and family have given me thier collections. Also, when my mom died, I grabbed hers up. I had them pretty organized until that started happening.

I also have old sewing and crochet patterns, darning eggs, needle cases, pin cushions, sissors, assorted old notions and sewing baskets.

Red Garnett, I think we'd all love to the photos of your collection, in whatever shape it's in. Perhaps you can pull out a few to show off!!

I have a friend that made a "Buttons and Bows" quilt. She made bow tie blocks that were arranged in shaded color rows diagonally across the quilt. She wanted to sew matching color buttons in the plain parts of the blocks, but didn't have enough to do it. One Friday night, my husband was gone, so she came over, we spread the quilt on the floor, and my LARGE glass terrarium jar of buttons out across the whole family room floor. We sat on the carpet for hours while she found just the right button for each spot. I don't remember how she ever kept them in the right order. She entered her quilt in the county fair and won a ribbon. I was so proud for her and cherish this memory.

I'll have to get a pic this weekend and show you some. :-) Most are in old clear pill bottles and old jello boxes that my grandmother cut the top off of and lined up inside of cigar boxes - VERY organized she was! (Wish I inherited THAT too!)
