    Question Looking for a Pattern

My brother-in-law died and I promised his widow that I'd make a quilt using his shirts. I now have the shirt but my mind is drawing a blank. During a sleepless night I sort of got an idea for a nine patch set on an angle. But then, maybe that isn't the best use of the shirts. I have about 12 patterned shirts that will work in a quilt plus about 7 or 8 solids. He was a redhead and I thought maybe I could use a dark red shirt for the middle of every 9 patch. Do you think that might work? I'm open to EVERY suggestion for patterns or tweaking of my idea. Thanks bunches!

Would the disappearing 9 patch work here?

I don't have any suggestions but will be very interested in seeing what you decide to do.

I have the perfect pattern for you! Let me go find it and I'll be right back.

    Here it is: http://thethriftyquilter.blogspot.co...e-thrifty.html

Also, if you go to Bonnie Hunter's website she has patterns that make use of shirt fabrics.

I made a quilt from my DH's shirts after he passed away. It is my avatar and I think it is beautiful. When I feel low, I wrap myself in it and feel all better. The pattern is a pinwheel quilt pattern and you can find the free instructions online at quiltsforkids.org/patterns/33/pinwheel-quilt-pattern/. I made it bigger to fit my needs. There are several other free patterns on line as well.

    http://www.paperpanache.com/free/guestpats/ashirt.htm

This is paper pieced but retains the appearance of a shirt. The example is hawaiian but would be suitable for any shirt.

Also this site has 5 examples for patchwork

cabbagepatchkid, thanks for posting the link. I've copied the pattern and am going to try it as a manly quilt.

When my brother died, my SIL wanted something to give all the kids, and family to remember him by. So I told her I would take his shirts, and make pillows for everyone. Everyone wanted something no matter how or what it was. So I made pillows for all, and my SIL put a note on each pillow about my brother. It was really very cool. You could do that. Just a thought.

Try Japanese Jigsaw-its another thread on the board-might give good use of the fabrics from bil shirts-deepest sympathy to you and yours and good luck with quiolt-I'm sure any pattern you chose will give a good tribute to him-God Bless
