The latter (Moonglow) has beautiful PP stars,free pattern, a lot like in your picture. The first by Ula Lenz has free New York Beauty block patterns

If you want to create your own designs on this theme, check out the mariner's compass programs from Quilt Pro. Creating the designs is not terribly difficult once you select the elements you want, then play with distorting them.

I love paper piecing.Yes it is time consuming but go for it and celibrate the colors and when you are done make a quilt that is a no brainer.That is what I do.
