Quilt
By Grace V. Tidrow

Life is like a patchwork quilt
put together by time
part of yours is quilted
also part of mine.
The part we quilt together
will have beauty to behold
Fashioned with our love that's red
bound with a band of gold.
There will be many little patches
some gray and some blue
Bu the thread that binds them together
is the love I have for you.
So as you pledge your love to me
and I pledge mine to you
we'll be safe beneath this quilt of love
All our whole lives through.

Patchwork Quilt

Together we make our patchwork quilt of life

Cotton backing is our hearts and souls

Thread we use to sew is the strength of our bond

Pieces of clothe special memories to remain in our sight

Each cloth has color with a meaning

White reminding us of our Earth’s beginning

Brown is for the love of rich soil we work

Blue for all known oceans, seas, rivers, and streams

Gray the sky where we watch God’s creatures fly

Green for the respect of nature’s landscape scenes

Orange as we love that “Old Man” and his moon

Purple for tears we shed and pain

Red for all the love we have made

Rainbow colors for diversity of our families

Yellow for the sunrises we have seen

Our quilt continues to grow only missing one color

Once our time here is finished this color they will sew

Black being the finishing piece of our patchwork quilt

Wow! I hadn't heard of either poem. Will be using one when I make "our" wedding quilt in another year.
