My very kind neighbor is an older gentlemen (maybe upper 60s?), and since we built our new home and moved in he has continually brought me over several (I mean a LOT) new plants and flowers from his house to plant here (he lives all alone). We're talking rose bushes, lavender, iris, plum hyacins, snowdrops, lilac bushes, yuccas, daffodils, hyssop, sweet bush... and the list goes on (and on). I think you get the picture. I'd really like to make him a nice lap quilt, and I'm looking for ideas of simple patterns. I have a really nice wild bird fabric (brown) that I thought he may enjoy (he's very 'outdoorsy'). If anyone has any ideas for a simple man quilt for the kind man, I'd appreciate it. :)

Since you've got a print in mind, I'd pick coordinating fabrics and do something like YBR or Turning Twenty.

How about a Warm Wishes? You can pick colors from the fabric you have and still be able to showcase the fabric itself. Its one of my favorite go to patterns. Looks nice and it is easy! Check out the Quiltmaker magazine free patterns. It was a Linus pattern one year I think

I made a tumbling block out blues for my former husband when he was a truck driver. I knew it was going to get abused in the sleeper and wouldn't see a washing machine for months.

I really like the D9P for a man. I have done 2 tops so far. One for my Hubby and the other one for a 65 year old man. They look like alot of piecing but very easy.

Looks like you have a nice focus fabric ... careful you don't chop it up so small you lose the beauty!

I had already been thinking of an assortment of plant/flower fabrics put together. There's lots that are garden like and not ultra-feminine.

One that I like to see is a focus fabric with log cabins around it to frame it up. And additional log cabins added to make a combo pattern. There was a beautiful one posted not so long ago by one of our posters!

Or, you could use the trellis effect around any focus fabric that I did with this quilt. Right colours, still would be quite he-man!!!
