Hi all,

so far I've been using snap fasteners on things like little pouches, cell phone cozies etc. because I'm not really a fan of velcro on these items. Now, for purses and bigger items I'd like to use magnetic closures. It says you don't need tools, just poke through the material. If you do a whole lot of them, though, that might be kind of slow and exhausting (I sew items for sale at craft shows). Has anyone here worked with a tool for these closures? Also, the snap fastener applicator I've been working with (handheld pliers type from Joann's) makes it hard to apply pressure evenly, and sometimes some of the prongs end up beside the snap. Any suggestions what to use instead?

Thank you!

When I was making cloth diapers for my diaper I invested in a heavy duty snap press. I have found it very handy for many of my sewing projects. It was pricey but I think it is worth the price.

I use the seam ripper to make a small hole for the prongs to go thru. It was very easy. Just take the flat piece and mark with a pen where the prongs will go thru, then use the seam ripper to start the hole. I've never seen any other gadgets, but this was so easy, I probably wouldn't bother with a gadget anyway.

I've never seen a tool for the magnetic closures. As far as the snaps, many like the snapset tool instead of pliers. I've never used one so i can't say for sure.

Thank you! I looked up the snap press, and that really seems to be a gadget to be considered.
