One of my goals for this year. I bought a book and I'm really unhappy w/it. I have collected all the April Cornell Sunshine line in order to make this. I want it for myself--any tips/ hints?? I started the first round of petals and it's already too bulky for my liking.

Has anyone made it and do you have any helpful hints. I purchased the book The Quick and Easy Giant Dahlia on the Sewing Machine and it has yet to become quick nor easy!

show us a pic of what you have so far. if you show us both the front and the back of the work, somebody will probably have some suggestions for you.

Cathe did a gorgeous one here; maybe she can walk you through it.

I found a pattern in a couple old 1980's Quilt magazines, and it seems to work ok (with a little adjustment). And it's pretty much identical to the one in a book I just bought: Quick and Easy Giant Dahlia Quilt on the Sewing Machine by Susan Aylsworth Murwin and Suzzy Chalfant Payne. I did not assemble it according to the directions in that book -I sewed it in quarters, then in halves and then together. If you do a google search for "giant dahlia quilt pattern", you will find a few different patterns.

(copied from that other thread)

What do you mean "bulky"?

Quilt Smart has a Giant Dalia pattern you might want to look at. I have a friend that cranks out Giant Dalia quilts like they are nothing using the quilt smart stuff.

Would you be able to tell me how much of each fabric is needed for the giant dahlia? I bought 1/2 yard of each fabric on eBAY before I knew what I was going to make. I decided on the 54" dahlia and I don't have the pattern yet so I don't know the requirements. I want to buy any additional fabric now to make sure I can get it.

I've looked all over the net and I haven't found anything on it.

I've looked at several giant dahlia patterns but none look like the one I saw on display here at a state park - are there different designs?
