Try using the site's search box. Sometimes the results can be exactly what you're looking for.

Electric Bluefish that had the Cayenne Pepper as the hint? Look in the Quilt Block section.

The 40 days clue refers to EASTER
The 40 days is Lent prior to Easter.

I have done those Shop Hops and some stores do not follow the directions. It says the Bunny is supposed to be one or two clicks from the Home page, but that is not always true.
Alot of times they put the Bunny in the Newsletter, so you will sign up.

Some stores give you clues, others don't.
You just have to look around. The Home page will tell you if there is a clue. Like I said alot do the Newsletter, also "About Us" or maybe the "New Items". Some are PITAs and other are simple.

I just joined this (just for fun, I doubt I will find them all in the few days I have left) but I've already found 6 or 7!

Good Luck! The number of shops has grown over the years.
There are other like this - but not big. You get a pattern at the end. I think the site is www.quiltdash.com, they have 3 different ones going at different times of the month.

The clue to the bunny's location will be somewhere on the home page of the quilt shop. But this is only if they're nice enough to give one. Most do, some easier than others. My advice is if you get lost or confused always go back to the home page and re-read or look for the clue. The newsletter sign-up page is probably the most common place to find the bunny.
Remember, when all else fails, screw the bunny and shop!

I found 90 bunnies yesterday! So I might actually be able to find them all before the month is out!

This is so much fun!
