I agree with the poster who said Mom probably didn't think before she spoke. I find people who don't sew do this frequently! I think the panel is just fine and your Grandson will adore it.

I'm sure that the mom didn't think when she spoke. Panels are so tough to work with, and they certainly ARE quilts. It's the same love that went into them as with something pieced in hundreds of pieces. All that matters is the LOVE that's in it.

And besides, children are so particular with their "babies" Trust me. I have a 2 year old, and I've learned so much about the "cesses" (princesses) that sometimes a panel is the ONLY way to go!

I worked harder keeping the panel from getting wonky than I did on his other "real" quilts! Kinda hoping he likes it just cause his tomater is on it. do any of you feel it is crappy to use a panel? I used the world on the back so when he is older, or now, he can look at the map and know his dad Army-deployed, is There.

I did two of the "Cars" Quilt for my DGS, and I love to use panels for quilts, specially if I can find a cute pattern with blocks to go with. Will post pictures. The pattern was from a Fon's and Porter magazine, about 2006 or 2007. Also made pillowcases to go with their quilts, and to use for storage later on.

If it is, I've made a lot of crappy quilts. LOL

I love your quilt and I'm sure the grandson will too. Don't worry too much about his Mom's comments. She probably didn't realize what she said was hurtful.

Sorry that the mother of your grandson is so ungraetful, but your grandson will cherish it.
A Beautiful quilt warms the heart, enriches the soul, and keeps you warm!!
And I'm sure the love you put into the speacial one will keep him wraped in your Love, the map memories of where his dad is.
I have used panels for childrens quilts and each one has been loved and well used by each grand child ,all 24 of them.
Now the greats get to see and use them..

I think panels make wonderful children's quilts...they get the characters they like and appreciate them so much more that a traditional quilt.
Quilts are made with the recipient in mind...and that is what counts!
