Yea men can be funny. In my house my dh has never made a comment about my quilting but always encourages me to go out on Wednesday nights to quilt with my friends as he says I know you enjoy going so go out and have a good time.

Mine would not only let me buy what I needed, he'd probably go with me to the store! Eight years ago, we took a trip to the east coast for 3 weeks. We flew into Orlando FL and out of Burlington VT....we drove up the east coast with my Quilter's Travel Companion and the map. When we would stop at night, he'd take both into the motel room and say "Ok, if we go this route, we can go to this store and this one and this one, etc" He is my enabler!

Have to laugh. We live close to Las Vegas and I love slot machines (within reason). My hubby, naive though he is, was very happy when I started quilting. He thought (still thinks) that quilting is less expensive than gambling. Silly man.

Oh that so sounds like my husband. He retired almost 2 yrs ago and I've yet to get used to him being there so much. AND how can anyone watch that much TV. :hunf: :thumbdown: :thumbdown:

Funny you should mention that. Pat and I had that very conversation when he asked me (long time ago) just HOW MANY SEWING MACHINES DOES A WOMAN NEED IN A LIFETIME? I countered with JUST HOW MANY DRILLS and SAWS DOES ONE MAN NEED IN A LIFETIME? I was looking to replace a broken machine at the time - he had multiples of the aforementioned power tools. It is no longer a topic. :mrgreen:

I ran into an older gentleman at JoAnns the other day. He had a bleach stain on his sweater and wanted to cover it with a patch. so he ask my mom and I is just ironing it on would work. After talking about being sure the yarn wouldn't be damaged by the necessary heat and we got into a conversation on adhesives.
I suggested that he get the Patch specific glue because it was made for adhering to fabric. So the man, being a man, said that he had model airplane glue, so wouldn't that work. I reiterated that it wasn't intended for fabric and he could destroy the fabric or change the color; so he came back with "Hey, I know, I have a hot glue gun! that would surely hold it on." So we discussed the rigid nature of the glue. etc. You could tell he wasn't convinced, but finally my mom managed to talk him into taking the correct glue and if he didn't need it , to return it. I was really surprised that he just didn't use his staple gun or buy a buttoneer!

This thread reminds me of something that happened when we built our dream (retirement) home a few years ago. The hubby's brothers helped us get it done. We only had to move the stash from the 2nd floor of the old shack we were living in to the lower level of the new place. The guys were trying to figure an easy way to to that when one suggested a conveyor belt contraption from an upper window to the window of my new sewing studio, another suggested we just leave it in the old place and torch it along with the house. Thankfully, my husband said, "heck no, that won't work at all---we torch her stash, she'll just go out and buy more fabric to replace it!" I think it's one smart man I married! LOL
