I've seen several beautiful quilts from men's ties in Dresden plate and fan patterns but someone in the last few weeks posted a photo of a quilt she made with ties that was nether of those patterns I didn't book mark it and can't find it now. Can someone direct me to it? I've got a large tote full of ties waiting for me to decide what to do with them. Thanks

I open all the ties and take out the stablizer and serge the edges and wash just like I will be washing the quilt. Or Vest or whatever I will be making them into... that way I know what ones are good for that project.... the silk ties I then use a knit fuse to them to stablize them and they work great...

You don't need to serge the edges, because they're bias and won't ravel. I bought 2 huge boxes of ties from a Boys' and Girls' Club fundraiser several years ago. I dumped them in the washing machine, cold water with Era detergent. Hung on line to dry. Then I removed stitches & lining. No raveling because of the bias.
