Default memory quilts

I have been asked by a coworker to create 3 wall hangings or memory quilts for her mom, sister , and herself using items of her dad's.... there will be patches, racing memorabilla, maybe photos, not sure what all I will get. Does anyone have a good source for ideas? I googled memory quilts, but most are t-shirt quilts... not what I want...

thanks

There are several boards featuring memory quilts made out of clothing items on Pinterest -- though if I recall correctly, most of them are baby/toddler themed.

I would think you'd need to wait and see what specific things you are given to work with before you can plan too much. Do you think they want the 3 pieces to work together as a set or can they be different? You might group the items by colors, or by textures. I think it would be useful to establish size of wallhaning before you start-- not everyone has expansive wall space, and it would be a shame to make something that has no place for display. You might also want to ask how they plan to hang it, and work with that end goal in mind as you design.

I have made MANY memory quilts. You will have to see what you have to work with first, seperate in groups such as color coordination or if some of the same things go into each one. How big is the wall hanging going to be when completed and all according to the amount of fabric you can get from the items provided. Some things you get a lot less fabric from than you expect due to possible damage and or stains, darts, seams and size. Some fabrics such as tshirts need to be back with a fusible backing others won't. My avatar is made from 4 of my fathers fathers dress shirts and is a large lap quilt size.
