I've seen many pics of beautiful fabric "stashes" on here - many look like small fabric stores. Does anyone have any trouble w/the fabric fading in the ones that are "on display" on OPEN shelves.
If I was blessed enough to have an even small stash, (I pretty much have to buy as I need) I can't imagine being able to use it fast enough to prevent fading.

Thanks, just curious - have a blessed day.

I have a good sized stash that I keep in cabinets with doors, which most always are shut. My sewing room is a corner of our family room. It only has one window and not much sunlight comes in at all. And so far, I have not had any problems with fading.

Yes, I try not to let any natural light hit my stash or thread, and I also keep my sewing room a little cooler. It would be a shame to see all those pretty colors fade!

Half of mine is on open shelves and I've not had a problem with fading. My stash does sit were the sun can shine on them at all and I move the fabric around so much that dust doesnt have a chance to settle and cause fading either.

I've had a few fade on the fold lines.

And the fabrics around those were just fine.

Some of these were in a closet that had doors on it.
Some were out in the open.

I do try not to let sunlight get on the fabrics.

Some seemed to have been kept in a box.

I have had my fabrics fade on the fold lines. Now I have cupboards with doors, so that's not a problem anymore. Fabric was too expensive to have it fade. I'm not sure but perhaps the fading ones were cheaper fabrics. When I redid my sewing room, I got cupboards with doors. Works great.

Have stored my fabrics behind closed doors for thirty years....no fading.

On the other hand, I've had navy fabric in a quilt fade after one month displayed under florescent lights. Navy and some red families seem the worst offenders.

Storing your fabric in closed cabinets or in a closet out of the light is the way to go!!! I've received fabric from estate sales etc. that has been pretty much ruined by the sun and I've had to cut around fade lines.

With fabric being so expensive, one needs to make sure it's usable in the future.

Mine is in a long, narrow closet, stored like bolts on a bookshelf. No fading. Lights on only when I'm shopping or playing
