Hello!

I have a large applique pattern and if I want to mirror image it, I don't know how to do it. The pattern is 26x26 inches (so no, it doesn't fit in my printer lol).

Technically I don't have to mirror image it, i mean, seriously, who knows which way the watering can is supposed to face? But it would make it easier for me to line everything up when I am ready to lay it all together.

Couple of thoughts - You could trace it (backwards, of course) on freezer paper, taped together to make it wide enough. You can tape it to a window and trace it that way, or if your dining table has a leaf, take the leaf out, put a piece of glass or plexiglass in its place and a lamp underneath the table, and viola you have a light table.

Another thing you can do is take it to Kinko's, I can't remember if they have something that will scan that big, but they are always very helpful and come up with creative solutions.

But isn't tracing it going to give me the same pattern? If I turn the pattern over so the pattern is facing the table, I can't see it to trace it on the back? .. I do believe I am missing something LOL

If you put it on a light box or tape it to a window you will be able to trace the wrong side.

OK ... thanks ... I don't have a light box, and I don't have a window big enough (well I do, but it's at the top of the wall and I'd need a ladder hahahaha!)

I may be missing something, but if you trace it on the wrong side of the fabric instead of the right side, wouldn’t it be mirror image when you cut it out?

I'm going to be tracing it onto fusible interface - I'm not doing hand applique LOL ... way too much work! And I don't really want to trace the pattern twice!

Remember it needs to be reversed on fusible to get it the right direction, so trace it directly onto the fusible without the reversal, and that should do the trick for you!

If the lines of the original are not dark enough to show through, the layers go over with a heavy marker first.

My lightbox is an old drawer with a piece of plexi on top with flashlights in the drawer for the light.
Not likely you have a drawer as big as you need for your 26"... but could you not do the tracing in sections, by carefully laying it on, and shifting the placements of the original and tracing to do the next section?? Painter's tape would do the trick to hold both in place at each stage, and would peel away without damage.

In light (yes, pun intended) of the non-existent window at a safe level .... what about taping all to a glass shower door, and turning on the light? If not enough light, set another lamp inside the shower?

Or head on over to Staples or any good instant print shop and they should have the equipment to do the job for you. Oh wait ... what about your employer???

Kinko's was helpful when I needed a actual quilt block photocopied because I want to view quilting on top of the actual block when I was creating the quilting stitches. I think they can help you.

So i brought it to staples and all they did was give me a photocopy of the exact same thing LOL ... apparently they don't understand what mirror image is! At least they didn't charge me.

I don't have shower doors QuiltE - curtains in both bathrooms!

I dropped off the photocopy at my friend's house, she's got a massive window and said she'd do it for me this weekend, on the condition that when I come to pick it up I have to bring my dog ... how do I say no to that?
