I am pulling into Seattle, WA, this afternoon. Passing through on vacation for a couple days. What are the names of must-see quilt shops? Thanks for your help.

Sadly we don't have the number of quilt shops that we used to have I'm on the Southeast side and rarely get into Seattle proper any more.

Gossypium (latin name for the cotton plant) in Issaquah is just a short jaunt up I-90

Quiltworks NW in Bellevue moved a year or two ago into a smaller location -- but if you also do beading it is worth the trip!

Pacific Fabrics (local chain store) moved into Quiltworks old location in Bellevue. I used to include their Sodo (south of the dome) location on my "Seattle's Cheap Secrets" tour, but about 5 years ago they reduced their discount on fabric and no longer have multiple "flat fold" tables so not worth the trip -- but if you are in Seattle downtown they are close.

I haven't been in a couple of years, but I used to enjoy my regular trips to Carriage House Quilts in Des Moines, a bit south of the city but some good fish restaurants that way

If you go out to Monroe or Redmond, the Ben Franklin stores are worth a look. As I understand they are individually franchised and so have different offerings.

I don't get out to Puyallup much, but the Quilt Barn comes to mind.

Trains and Fabric in Tacoma, Gee Gee's in Yelm and by all means Quilted Strait in Port Gamble, not only for the shop but for the scenery. Those are my go to shops.

If you're coming north you need to stop at Quilting Mayhem in Snohomish. Then there is Ben Franklin in Monroe and shops in Arlington, Stanwood and all the way to Canadian border. Don't forget to check out Pacific NW Quilt & Arts Museum in La Connor. Happy shopping.

Hope you are having fun in Seattle, it was a lovely day yesterday but it sure rained last night! Thought I'd mention another store if you are zipping about, it's not a quilt shop. They have some bolts of cotton but mostly it is fancy fabrics, for us crafty types though they have tons of trim at very nice prices. Give the trims a sniff test though, most of them are coming direct from other parts of the world and its my experience that moth ball scent never ends... For me they are a mile or so from my house and across the road from the Joann Fabric so I do stop by time to time.

The name is true to what they do -- Fabrics for Less.

I have been to the Quilt Barn in Puyallup a bunch of times since son and family moved to walking distance! I walk there when I visit. It would be a commute from Seattle but they have nice things there. Lots of notions

There is also a store in Seattle that displays hundreds of vintage machines. I can't remember the name but someone at the Pike Place Market knew about it and it was walkable from there.
