Default modern fabric help

Hi,

I am used to the traditional quilts and the traditional fabrics, but am making things to sell at some craft fairs, like dishtowels, bags, and may display some quilts. I know there are people who still like the traditional kinds of fabrics, and then there are those who prefer the modern fabrics. So, my question is, what are the modern fabrics? What do I look for? I have some fun kitchen fabrics that I think will look cute for dishtowels, and I would like to make more with modern fabrics. I really like the Kiss the Cook selection, but what else can I use?

Thanks

We have a local quilt shop that specializes in modern fabrics. If you look at their lines it might give you an idea: http://www.waterwheelhouse.com/shop/Fabric.htm Also, look in some of the quilt magazines that emphasize contemporary designs, such as Quilting Arts. http://www.magazines.com/quilting-ar...iliate_id=7124 or Quilting Modern http://www.magazines.com/quilting-mo...efault,pd.html The ads are helpful. Some lines of fabric are modern, such as Kaffee Fassett. The modern look includes quilts without borders, lots of white or grey between strips or simple blocks. Good luck!

Personally I do not love traditional quilts or fabrics and end up buying most of my fabric on the internet. The designers I gravitate towards include Loralie, Hoffman - Batiks (I love the watercolors), Elizabeth Studios, Timeless Treasures but it all depends on what I making. I love panels and use EQ7 to design my quilts. I think the main difference in the fabrics for me is bright colors and novelty prints. Hope that helps.

Modern fabrics seem to be mostly solid - but I've seen the modern patterns (big pieces) made with traditional fabric - just depends on what trips your trigger!

Modern quilts use a lot of white, usually.
