I am just taking my first forays into machine applique. I am currently in love with Kim Diehl and trying projects from her books. Do you have a favorite brand of thread? I bought both the smoky and clear versions of the Sulky line, but they were also available from Gutterman's and Coats and Clark. Do any of them run better in your machines or break less often than others? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, JEM

It tough to say what your machine will like best. I have had good success with all the brands you listed.
I found using a small needle size makes a really big difference in the final product. Typically I use a size 65 needle. Don't worry about forgeting you left that small needle in the machine.... the only thread I can get through the eye is monofilament.
Each manufactures mono filament is just a touch different when it comes to adjusting the tension. Some I really have to loosen the top tension , some no adjustment at all ... so do a bit of a test prior to working on your project.

Go to superior threads website. The most recent newsletter talked about this thread and the pros and cons of which to use.

If you can find Invisifil, it comes in at least 30 colors, is very fine, has no glisten. It is size 100 and it is polyester. Cost is about $3 for a 400 meter spool. It is made by a company called Wonderfil. I find if I have a few colors on hand (dark khaki, ivory, navy to name a few) it will blend with most colors.

I Like the poly invisible thread much better than the nylon.
