I need some advice,  suggestions  or reason :( not to make this quilt.

Perhaps the motorcycle quilters out there can help. My concept is to create a side profile, or front veiw of a motor cycle.
1) what would work best for the chrome, any certain thread,
2)if it comes out ok i might try to sell it, (although i dont know if im brave enough to go to a bike rally with a quilt to sell'
3) so what appeals to bikers/motorcyclers, colors, logos. No i dont ride a motorcycle Thanks Dave Ps Do you think they would sell

You can get profile pictures off Google images and click on "line art" ... silhouettes I think comes up with a lot of choices.

Depends on what "style" you are going to do and what "type" of rally. If it is a charity event, then I would go with a simple theme of various outlines. If it is a "rally" you might want to decide if you want a "racier" type quilt.

Remember, what/who they act like at a rally isn't what they may be in "real" life so they still will like "pretty & fancy" quilts, they don't have to be hardcore.

Hope this helps :)

You could check out your local Harley shop and ask about charity events. Local HOG chapters are always doing charity runs for local kids, and our local one does them for veterans, etc. At Xmas they buy toys and do the annual toy run to hospitals etc. Maybe they could raffle one to raise money for one of their charities? See how it goes and maybe you could sell them if there is a lot of interest?

Harley do at least one bike that is not all chrome the Night Rod http://www.google.com/search?q=harle...w=1335&bih=864 And most like to have the Harley name and logo somewhere but if you were trying to sell it I would think you would have to think about copyright??

Most people in the Harley stores are very friendly, you could always phone and talk to one of the girls that work there, maybe in the clothing section??

Hope this helps

OK as one of the biker quilters I will try and see if I can help.

Type of rally you are going to is greatly dependent. Small local charity runs draw a much different crowd then a big national rally like Sturgis or Laconia. In my experience, at rallys us girls are the shoppers, the guys could care less unless it is some chrome gee gaw they can put on the bike itself or a biker accessory used in motorcycling. The girls are usually looking at the shiney things (jewelry).

However, quilty things can be of interest. I have made loads of T-shirt quilts out of HD dealer shirts. I made them for my local HOG chapter and we raffled them off. We usually had no trouble selling tickets at $5 a pop. $5 is easy to part with for a chance at a quilt, more not so much and a wall hanging, I just don't know if the market is there. That said, upon seeing my T-shirt quilt that was raffled off through the HOGS I have had 3 people actually pay me to make them one out of their T-shirts. They supplied the T's, I did everything else and they paid $400 for this service. So you just never know.

For the chrome on the bike wall hanging... Well it is an absolute pain in the butt to work with but silver lame may work. A few years ago I saw some very cool fabric at a quilt show that had silver metallic in it that looked great and probably a ton easier to work with than lame. But considering it is a wall hanging you may be able to find a silver acrylic paint you can mix with fabric medium to paint the chrome bits on. Depending on how much handwork you want to do.... sequins or shiney little tiny silver seed beads would also add just the right amount of shiney to represent chrome if you sewed them to a silvery gray fabric.

I agree that lame is a pain, but could it be stabilized before it's even cut?
