Default Weekend warrior

So I used the last of this year's vaca days on Friday. Stitches the Wonderdog (see avatar) and I hung out in the sewing room for six blissful hours. Just the solitude and peace I needed. I pieced two table runners for Christmas gifts. I then got brave and made a pieced and fully lined winter window valance for the living room, using flannel snowmen fabric and two other wintery cottons. Have been sewing and quilting for more than 30 years but I lack the courage to try much of anything without a pattern. Once I figure how to post a picture, will do so here on the boards.

Also several weeks ago, found two jelly rolls of the Moda Kansas Troubles for $11 each. Thought they looked a bit strange but other than for the screamin' deal, didn't pay much attention. Found a jellyroll pattern I wanted to try so today I roll one out to discover the roll(s) is only 1 1/2" wide.......started to panic and remembered all the encouragement the board gives as to "do your own thing", "no rules", etc. Rather than half all the measurements and deal with very small blocks, I just added an additional boarder on all 4 sides of the block. The blocks became rectangular, but it will be unique, cute and, absolutely original. It's almost like a four patch within a log cabin. Live and learn I guess. Again, by the time it's done maybe I'll be computer savy enough to post.

You definitely did the "if life gives you lemons make lemonade". Fun to let loose and not be bound by the conventional pattern. I have been making table runners for the past couple of weeks, none by pattern. Some I like, one I love, a couple are so-so, but everyone else thinks they are grand! I usually use only a pattern, either commercial or drafted out very carefully. I love winging it for a change

You are so right. Some of the projects I wasn't wild about, the recipients were crazy about. Go figure!
