I just came back from a yard sale where the woman was reducing her stash. I had thought I had a good sized stash but mine is NOTHING compared to what she was getting rid of!

She was charging $1.00/yard or $20.00 for a box full of fabric. I got 3 boxes of fabric and I think that I have probably around 150 yards of fabric. She had probably 30 or 40 boxes of fabric altogether. She said that she still has about that much fabric still in her house that she is keeping. It was nice that she allowed packing your own boxes with choice of fabric. In other words, you didn't have to choose her pre-packed box.

The only trouble is - the fabric was stored in a basement and has a musty smell to it. I am thinking that a good washing and hanging out in the sunshine will freshen it back up again. The owner was very upfront about the mustiness and even included that fact in the newspaper ad.

Does anyone have any other good tips on getting musty smell out of fabric? Thanks for any ideas you have!

A cup or two of vinegar and a cup of baking soda added to your detergent. Repeat if necessary :D:D:D

What a great find for you!!

I think OxyClean would take out the smell and freshen the colors. I have washed things in it to get out horrible smells, like when the cat pee's on towels.

What a wonderful find for you.

I wash all my material that I get from my mil in hot water.
I can also tell if it runs this way also.

vinegar baking soda and oxy clean will do the trick and then a good hanging on the clothes line. Odor wont never come back even after getting hot.

Oxyclean works great! And use the dryer fairly hot. Also, baking soda will freshen it.

I use vinegar and Oxiclean. What a great find. You can have lots of fun with all that fabric.
