I am wanting to try some new battings.
I see the cotton 80/20 and such and am wondering what is another great batting to use.
My quilts are used. I don't like them stiff.
If I prewash my quilts, do I have to PreWash the batting as well.
What is this talk of shrinkage and how does it affect the quilt and the look, drape and feel of the end result.
Thanks for all the comments.

I really don't use anything buy W&N. I don't prewash it, because when it shrinks it give the quilts sortof an antique look. You can prewash it though.

One thing that I really like about it is what the spacing for quilting is, its recommended every 10". Some battings need to be quilted every 4", the more quilting the stiffer the quilt.

Also when the batting shrinks, it puckers up the fabric a little, giving it that tiny puff around the stitches, making it look and feel even softer.

Read the package instructions.

I bought a cotton Quilter's Dream batting- was planning to wash it - and on the BACK of the label it said: DON'T wash it - shrinkage 1% or less -

The LAQ that quilted it said it worked up fine, but when I took it out of the wrapping it was lumpy, bumpy, and wavy where it had been folded. I sprinkled it and threw it in the dryer, and it was still lumpy, bumpy, and wavy when I took it out of the dryer.

I wash Warm and Natural - but my battings are maybe ten years (or more) old, now, so things may have changed.

I like the flatter look.

Another case of "Do it YOUR way"

I've never prewashed mine, but I kind of like the little puckery look!

I like warm and natural. I don't wash before hand. I like the puckered look.
