I have read thru this entire thread and I find it quite alarming that the LQS seem so rude. Telling folks, well you should have bought it here, etc. I am old, but I did learn that a bit of sugar goes along way. IF I were told I won't give you lessons because you did not buy it here, I simply would NEVER return to that LQS. Now on the other hand, if I were greeted nicely and told well unfortunately I cannot offer you the free classes, but your certainly welcome to join our classes, but, you will have to pay for the lessons, and mind you its going to be how they say it, that will impress me. The one things sewers do, is upgrade!! Yes we do. Maybe not every year or so, but we do upgrade, and how do you make a customer for life, you treat them well. You make them feel special when visitiing your store, you offer them things they need, you help them. And when it comes to upgrading, where are they going to go first?? Why my LQS is where they will shop first...because I have establised a relationship with them, I have been kind, and I have been understanding, and all that sugar just passed right on up to me, as they walk out with their latest upgrade. This is why stores, of any kind go out of business, they have forgotten that the customer is always right (lol ) and being kind pays off in the long run of things. Just some thoughts,

extremely well said Amythyst! and my 81 year old mom always tells us "things always work out the way they are supposed too". sometimes, that's not fun...but in this case it is. I have never had a bernina, so i don't know what i am missing! i DO know that i will LOVE the new viking Tribute that i ordered...at shop i have done business with for 20 years--bought two sewing machines (my first viking and a babylock ellure for embroidery...and a couple of vacuums). They aren't a quilt shop-it's an old fashioned sew-vac place. but they have always been more than fair with me.

If the owner of the shop had said to fred, or to i..."i can call xyz shop and tell them you are a new bernina owner......" we would have continued with the sale. but sorry folks...i support local small business 100%, but not when i get yelled at. and not when my sweetie of a husband walks through the door and gets yelled at.

all in all, tuesday was a bit rough, but things, like my mom said, worked out!

I've read the entire thread. There is no price that can be put on peace of mind...it is priceless :0) You are so happy with your present Viking...now you have committed to a another and with a dealer you have confidence in....I think I see you doing "The Happy Dance"

BTW keep that hubby around to be proactive for his sweetheart and take the slings and arrows of a shop owner who was 'playing' on your kindness it would seem in making you 'wait' until Tuesday for refund....I think in her case Tuesday would never come.

I have to smile with your Mother's adage....it all works out. Now that dealer can resell her machine on eBay and make all that money she told she was losing if she'd followed through with the sale with you. More importantly you are sticking with a brand of machine you are familiar with and dealing with a merchant that has a long track record.

Congratulations on your new machine. What fun. I have a Bernina and a Brother machine. I love them both but use the Brother much more. Being happy and feeling happy when you stitch on your machine is what matters to me. I get that more from my Brother than my Bernina- it's just a personal choice. I could name a few reasons but it doesn't really matter.

So, it was meant to be for you wasn't it? Have a blast stitching with your machine. I love it when people write about how happy they are with their machines- whatever make or model. I have a friend that calls her machine "my baby".

Have a great day!

glad you've now got a machine on the way that you think you will be happy with.

I would get my money back and buy another Viking, if you think you would be much happier with it. Just my Opinion.

Is there only one Bernina dealer near you? Contact the Bernina USA website and ask for a dealer near you. The term, Nothing beats a Bernina, is correct. I could not be happier with mine. You will need a dealer for service and classes. I wish you the best of luck.

twoxover,
I'm so happy that things worked out for you. I work in a Viking company store inside a JoAnn's super store and I really like the Tribute 140M, you'll really like your new machine. I own a Sapphire 875 and its becoming one of my favorite machines for piecing and quilting. I also own 2 mechanical Berninas that are at least 20 years old.
