My 401A was my first machine, and is still my favorite! Lucky you, all the original stuff to go with it!

My parents gave mine to me for a high school graduation gift back in 1980. They were told at the time that it is the best model Singer ever made.

Totally awesome gift. I have that machine and I use it everyday almost all day and have never had a problem with it. I love it, it is my go to machine. Enjoy.

Thanks so much for posting the pictures of your machine. I LOVE it! How neat to have a machine like the one you learned to sew on. Isn't it wonderful that it is in such good condition and that everything came with it! Congratulations! Now you'll think of your Mom each time you use it.

The 300 series and the 400 series of Singers are gems. The stitch is like no other. My mom has the 301 and I have the 404. Both are straight stitchers but still work like champs. My mom's machine was bought in the mid fifties and mine was bought in 1963. I've had( and still have) other machines but these machines make the prettiest stitch and are very rugged. I know you will be doing some gorgeous stitching on your new baby.
