Do as I do when I don't want kitty help...shut the door or put them outside. Also, teach them not to climb up on things....remember you're the alpha in control of the situation!

This is what I do, works well. Cat loves quilting too and I like his company.

My cat trained herself. Once, I had my sewing machine set up on the dining room table. Pumpkin used to get up on the table. She would then knock items off and chase them. One morning, I got up to go to work. I got her food but I didn't see her. I then went into the bathroom to do the morning ritual. Pumpkin came to the door of the bathroom and fell over. I was horrified! It was the middle of National Laboratory Week. I was supposed to give a lecture that week on Mad Cow Disease. I had been researching the topic as well as other neuropathies. My first thought was she had MAD CAT DISEASE! I ran to my black long-haired cat to find....she had managed to wrap black thread all around her back legs. She had knocked a spool of black thread off the table and started to play with it. She had black thread wrapped around herself, the table legs, and one chair. She managed to make it down the hall to the bathroom door when she ran out of thread and fell over. Needless to say, it was a large spool of thread. Since then, she doesn't come near the sewing space. Unfortunately, I still can't make her leave the ironing board alone. It is the perfect height to watch the birds.
I was trying to eat breakfast when I read your post. Had to set down my cereal bowl as I can't stop laughing!!!!! I can just picture it...

I love your kitty, I use to have one just like it, I had to have mine put down she was 18 yrs old, everytime I log on here and see yours it makes me think of mine sure do miss that old kitty. She went with us all over the country, when we went up to Canada she went with us. She love to ride in the car, she would get up behind the back seat and just lay there and never move.

[quote=cr12cats]I forgot wanted to suggest cats don't like mint so plant some mint on the side of a potted plant or a cotton balled saturated with mint oil or lemon oil or juice. quote/]

Once I tried to grow mint in a couple of pots in the kitchen window. My cat kept chewing it to the dirt. He would smell like mint for a day or so after. It was then that we all knew the mint was being grown for HIM, not us. Needless to say mint growing in our house was not at all successful!

They learned a long time ago not to do dumb stuff like that. His name is Scammy, a large, not fat, 4 yrs. old, I chased him off about 6 places yesterday and finally stuck him in his large crate. After having to do this about 6 times, all I have to do is threaten to put him in the crate and he will straighten up for several weeks and then we start all over again. He is very hard headed. Crates solve lots of problems. Hubby calls it giving him a time out, like with kids, of course, with kids just making them sit on a chair.
My ex hubby called it "Kitty Jail" Works wonders if you are more stubborn than your babies!!!

That is Peaches; he is the sweetest kitty you could ever imagine. I have two others; his sister Cuddles and then a big gray and white long hair that looks just like a Norwegian Forest cat. His name is Fella and he is 6 years old. Peaches and Cuddles are three. P & C were rescued from the nursing home where my dad is in Dripping Springs. The whole litter were orange and whites and I found homes for four of them. The other one looked exactly like Peaches but was the biggest in the litter. I am sure someone grabbed him too for they were the most adorable kittens.

You could be writing about my Krissy. We had to put her down in January. She was 19. She was with us longer than either of our kids! She too liked to travel and ride in the car. She rode on the center console and looked out the windshield as we went along. Also, she loved meeting people. One time we were camped in a huge campground near Yosemite. We appeared to have the place to ourselves except for one other camper quite a distance away. When we took her out for our walk, she was pretty insistent about going up to meet these folks so they could fawn over her and tell her how beautiful she was. We sure do miss her, but have great memories. She was quite a character.

I must be lucky. My cat doesn't bother anything in my quilting room. She may come in when I'm quilting, but then leaves and lays outside the door. I made her a small quilt for the couch and she seems to know that is hers. Once she did cozy up in my daughters quilt that I was quilting, but I think only because I had to leave it under the machine. It took several days to quilt (queen). Now when I'm sitting at the computer or watching TV, she demands to be on my lap.
