I just rec.'d my new Clotilde catalogue and on pg. 34 for anyone else who gets it is a Velvet "V" foot, that is specifically for stitching velvet without flattening the nap. I want to know if anyone on the board has one or knows anything about this particular foot. The desc. says it will fit a low shank machine, which my Bernina is. I have a lot of velvet that I want to make a crazy quilt from "down the road yet", and was wondering if it would be benefincial to purchase this? Does anyone know?

I've heard of useing a "V" foot, but can't not offer u any actual experience...
I googled reviews for this foot, found a few and seems it is recommended.

Have you ever used the needle board for ironing?
Do you or how do you iron your velvet?

Are you planning on keeping your Bernina forever? I would think about getting the snap on foot. You can get a foot adapter package which takes any type of shank and adapts it, therefore allowing to use any snap on foot from any brand.

With the adapter you can use any of the snap on feet from Singer, Janome, Brother, Bernina, etc. I just love it. I has been the best investment I've ever made.

How timely, as I have to put a velvet border on a crazy quilt, and have been avoiding it exactly because I was worried about the nap.

That said, I think you would still need an adapter before using a generic low-shank foot on a Bernina. Because, you know, it's a Bernina. :roll:

I will probably keep my Bernina forever, or until one of us wears completely out. lol. Mine is a 930, I purchased it new in 1985, so you can see I've had her for a while. I have an adapter for using other feet, but I haven't used it. I bought it several years ago for some foot I ordered, can't remember now which one. Do you have a Bernina?
I don't know about the ironing, I have never really worked with velvet before. What is a needle ironing board? You'll have to inform this poor child, because I have never heard of that
before.
I purchased some beautiful velvet last year from in Carlsbad, N. Mex., and inherited so to speak a lot more, from a quilter in our town that passed away. She probably had more fab. than most local quilt shops. Anyway her mother in law who is our quilting group and the lady's husband brought 8 large garbage bags, and boxes full of fabric, and books (just out of her living room) for all of us to go through and take what we wanted the first time they brought some after Cathy passed away. This continued,with several bags and boxes over a period of several months when we had our meetings. The husband had built her a building on their place just for her fabric I have been told. The mother in law still brings boxes almost every meeting (once a month), she did so today. All of the fabric they have brought to our meetings was just left overs after her daughters and family picked what they wanted. Cathy has been gone now for at least 2 years. I probably have a good 15-20 yards of different colored velvet, I took to use for my crazy quilt when I ever get to do it.

I went to the Bernina site, and viewed a short video on presser foot # 51, roller foot, but could not find it among the other presser feet, nor the prices of any of them before an error showed up on my computer and cause internet explorer to close. This happed before when I was at Bernina's site, don't know what the problem is. Maybe one of these presser feet will work for us. What model Bernina do you have? I assume you do have a Bernina since you went to their site.

By the way thanks bluteddi, Pat M. and MTS for answering and giving me your opinions. MTS let me know if you decide on either of the presser feet and tell me what you think about them. MTS did you get a price on the Bernina foot?

Just an FYI - if you do a search on "Bernina Presser Feet" on youtube, all the videos are there.

The Bernina sites never, ever have prices. It's treated as classified information. Cracks me up. I was able to find some links showing the prices from $60-$75 for the foot. Which is sort of on par for their feet.

I'm using a Bernina 150 right now, also a workhorse. I think(?) yours is from a prior collection, and you use different feet than mine. I would just call a local dealer and ask them over the phone.

Of course, you could always buy the generic adapter, and get one of the inexpensive roller feet.

The "new style" is compatible with mine, and the "old style" foot should be compatible with yours. I'd write to the Seller first asking for confirmation that it would fit your machine as he does not list the model #'s in that listing (he does in the "new style" one).

And the $$$ is a lot less than Bernina. :wink:
