Question Mystery Quilt Case #134 Chips 'n Strips Jan. 1, 2012

I know this is a very silly quetion to some of you, however, I'm getting ready for tomorrow's Merry Mayhem Mystery Quilt - and I don't understand the directions. Maybe I'm not ready for this at all! My question is: In the directions when it said sew "end-to-end" do we sew a regular 1/4 inch seam placing the two pieces of fabric edges together as in a regular seam OR do we sew a diagonal seam (like it is explained for borders)? Hope this question makes sense... Thank you!

Vivian,

From the directions, I would say like a regular seam. I'm not sure they have factored in a diagonal seam(it would use up more fabric). I would be more likely to do that if I was making this on my own...but in this case, I will not. Are you using a jelly roll? I am just using scrap strips and have yet to cut my background and medium fabrics. I could be up all night with nervous dogs (Az just got fireworks this year..so am expect to be up all night with canines! Too bad the instructions don't start today!) Happy New Year..and happy sewing!

I don't think she wants you to do diagonal seam, just end to end. Am I understanding you right?

Yes, thank you! That's what I thought, however, being a newbie thought I should ask. (I'm going to use that newbie thing for a very long time). Actually I am a newbie (just a few months into quilting). Thank you

Thank you for replying and Happy New Year to you! Bet the babies will be up all night! I lived in Gold Canyon, AZ from 1985 - 2008 and I miss it dearly. In FL this year so winter is not as bad as up north. No, I am a newbie to quilting and I did not want to use one of my expensive (well, expensive to me) Jelly rolls - I only have the Moda Blueberry Crumb Cake and a white/cream background Moda for the crumb cake - so I'm cutting and getting practice. I'm cutting up 6 different dark blue flowers with yellow fabrics for the medium/dark jelly part; a cream tonal for light; a yellow on yellow/brown for medium. Hope it turns out okay - if not at least I'm getting practice cutting, sewing, and putting together! I just decided today to do this so just finished washing, ironing and getting ready to cut so thanks again for the post!
