Barbwork

Do you have any of the Quilt Pro Systems software/CD programs? I'm very new, without local quilting shops/lessons, etc. Thought rather than using the web for hours to find things, immediate access from my own computer may be more efficient and useful.

What are your thoughts on this subject and do you like your program (name it please), if you have one.

I have Electric Quilt (EQ) and am not familiar with Quilt Pro. Both have their pros and cons. EQ can have a steep learning curve but it is a very substantial program. Many included patterns and fabrics and the ability to design your own. Will also provide cutting directions; yardage requirements (which have a tendency to be a bit heavy on the yardage IMO); etc. There are others here that use Quilt Pro that will be along shortly, I'm sure, to give you more info on that program.

I have both QP and EQ and I go to QP 99% of the time, I think QP is much more user friendly, and much easier to use on startup. I started with Version 4 and now am using 6. I own a quilt shop and use it to figure quilts for my customers and have not had a problem with measurements or yardage requirements. They also have an onboard tutorial. If you decide to go with QP I can help with questions if you need.

No opinion on QP but I use - and like - EQ7. QP has a rep for being more user friendly and it is less expensive. Have you checked the QP website - they have a free 30 day trial which might help you make a decision. EQ is strictly a quilt design program - it does not tell you how to piece or quilt. I think that is true of QP also. Maybe OzarksGma can chime in on that.
Check Softexpressions - there is a lot of info on various software programs. There used to be a lot of reviews, but I don't know if that is still available.

Re general information on piecing and quilting - there is just a ton online, and that is how I learned to quilt. That is, of course, assuming that you have a reliable and affordable internet connection. For books, check Better World Books or
Abe Books - both have a big selection of used quilting books at good prices.
I am sure you will be happy with whatever decision you make - quilt designs programs are fun.

I have used quilt pro in an older version and have been looking at new versions of both. I found my quilt pro to be very intuitive and did not have a lot of reading of the manual to do. Also important is your platform. E quilter is not available for mac/apple. Note the version I used of quilt pro was for pc before it crashed. Now on mac and not sure how well the mac version stands up to the pc version. Hapy shopping.
