This morning I cleaned, oiled and lubed the Singer Touch & Sew Model 628 that I got from my MIL. I sewed on it a couple days ago and it sewed ok just seemed noisy. I figured it needed some attention. I also have a Singer Touch & Sew so I figured I knew what I was doing and I had the book to follow. Well, after my loving care the tension is off. I usually have mine set around 3 and I had to move this one down to 1 and then it still doesn't seem perfect. The inset bobbin winder does not work because the little button will not stay down, but that is something I don't know how to fix so will have to take that to a shop. Any suggestions on the tension?

If this machine has been sitting for awhile, try taking your thread and use it like floss. Back and forth a couple of times in the tension...you may have some built up gunk in the assembly. Make sure that the pressure foot is in the up position, of course

Any tips on threading the bobbin on my Singer Touch and Sew, 628? The directions said to let the needle poke the thread down to the bobbin, (wrapping end around the screw). It seems like the bobbin is way far forward of the needle. When I got the needle to go down by hand turning the gears, it snagged inside and seemed like it was about to break the thread. Any suggestions?

Not sure if all Touch N Sews are the same, but if it has the drop in bobbin, you need to slide the bobbin door open, then close it part way to engage the bobbin winder. I think there may be a mark near the door showing where to stop. Then wrap the thread from the needle around the screw a couple of times and start the machine. The thread should catch around the bobbin and start to fill the bobbin. Hope this helps.
