I am making what will be a diagonal set quilt top for a twin bed. It's 8 inch lemoyne squares set 7x7 - 7 across and 7 down. How do I figure out how to square up the sides so it will finish as a square with a diagonal center? I think I need some math instructions here. It measure roughly 77 inches point to point and the sides are 56 inches long. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Are these 8 inch "finished" size blocks?

(8-1/2 unfinished size?)

8 inches finished size. Have also thought about just cutting strips of fabric and going around the square until it makes a square shape on it's own would also then be easier to square up but haven't decided yet.

I would cut the squares for the sides 12-1/8 (12.125) inches

and the corner squares 6-1/8 (6.125) inches.

I think they might be a smidge (about 1/16 inch) too big.

The way I arrived at these numbers is this:

For the side triangles:

8.5 squared plus 8.5 squared = 144.5

The hypotenuse is the square root of 144.5 = (approximately) 12.02

For the corner triangles:

the square root of 1/2 of 8.5 squared = the short side of the corner piece

8.5 squared = 72.25

1/2 of 72.25 = 36.125

the square root of 36.125 = (approximately) 6.01

That looks like a good site for when I am finishing up my Farmers Wife Quilt which is set on point. I plan on doing it a little different than the book so I need to find my own setting triangles. Thanks for the link.

Sewcrafty thanks so much for the link. I am awful at math, hmm could be why I don't follow patterns...lol. Hopefully your link will help.
