Great suggestions, another one I have seen "looks like a bookshelf with books standing, leaning, and some laying down on bookshelves" and then printing on the names of some of the books he has utilized in his studies. The bookshelf look could be made using cherrywood looking fabric, with cream/burgundy colored books and gold/black printing.....just food for thought!

Congrats to your son! A lot of great suggestions here. WOW, 60+ hours a week doesn't leave you much time or energy I bet.

Well, if you want to prepare him for the real world, I (legal secretary for over 40 years) would suggest that you make a "Robbing Peter to Pay Paul" quilt. http://www.quilterscache.com/R/RobPe...PaulBlock.html

I would second that! My LQS has this made up in Civil War repros and it's GORGEOUS - the photo here doesn't do it justice, at all: http://lonestarhouseofquilts.com/ind...oducts_id=6876 The Civil War fabrics can be made to lean very masculine or feminine or neutral - the rich colors are cozy and home-y.

This magazine contains a nice pattern from Lone Star: http://lonestarhouseofquilts.com/ind...oducts_id=7171

I did one of their BoM quilts with similar blocks called Lady of the Lake. I used Triangulations papers to keep the HSTs perfectly sized from one month to the next. Those papers are little miracles for HSTs and QSTs - anything triangular was my nemesis until I bought Triangulations.

I've seen fabric that looks like money, and also fabric that looks like books on a shelf. You could add pinstripes and maybe plaids and solid blues and other masculine fabrics. Maybe you could find stripes on a diagonal, like ties. There is also graduation fabric, with the hats being thrown in the air. I like the courthouse steps patterns, too, but I might cut the pieces at 2.5 or 3 inches wide.
