My next project will be a Hanging Gardens quilt made up in Jewel Tones. What color would you use for background fabric? Here's a link to the picture of the quilt pattern.

Cream, pale yellow, a batik with pale yellow blue and greens.
Lovely pattern can hardly wait to see your quilt.

when i work with jewel tones I like to use black for the background. Makes the colors pop out. That said, i believe a neutral color that does not fight with the jewel tones works best There are some black batiks with slight undertones of another color - navy blue, red that work for me. Example of this is my Avatar.

I kind of needs to know what colors you are using in the blocks, but black or navy might look nice.

blocks will be jewel tones - think rich looking gems like sapphire, ruby, emerald, topaz, etc

Then I would definitely go with black or dark navy and use accents of maybe cream.

I would probably go with either a butter yellow or a pale minty green. The hanging basket effect will be lost if you change the background to a dark color. I might even add some flower and leaf appliques to each basket.

If you use dark brights a rich ivory color, if you use jewel tones black would be beautiful. Would like to see whatever you choose.
