What is the best way to quilt a Log Cabin quilt? I am considering SID as this would be the easiest for me. What do you do?

I have done SID on log cabin quilts, also feathers, swirls, leaves. SID can be very attractive on the back of the quilt if you stitch in every seam.

My first bed size quilt was a log cabin which I sent to a LAQ to be quilted. She did a large meander on the body of the quilt, feathers in the borders and shadow quilting around the corner blocks. So really, it's up to you how much you want to do and what look you are going for.

Depends on what layout you used.
I just posted one i did. It is a barn raising. I feathered the dark and oulined each light log. I think SID would be better than outlining.

Log cabins are a lot of straight lines, so my first thought is something with some curve, curl to the quilting pattern....like feathers, baptist fan, almost any panto type pattern. The curve and curl won't take away from the fabrics or the pattern of the quilt itself....it gives the quilt some "life". Just my honest opinion.

Some of the prettiest log cabins I have seen are quilted with feathers. A baptist fan also looks really nice on them. I agree with Rose. The curves look good.

Thanks to all for your responses. Since I haven't mastered FMQ yet, I'll try the SID on this one.

Just tonight I finished my first log cabin made from my scraps. Also did for the first time mitered corners. This is just a lap sized quilt I made just for the fun of it. I plan on SID between the borders and the quilt and then just around each block 9" to stabilize it. Then I am going to just meander the quilt part and do piano keys on the border because I have some fullness to get rid of. I am going to do this on my sewing machine. I put this quilt together so I can play and practice free motion quilting on the sewing machine.
