Hello All,

I am in need of some inspiration if you all don't mind. Am wishing to make a quilt for my dear Son who is building his first house. now most of my quilts to date have been flowery (just love roses) except for 2 children's quilts and so I'm having no end of problems coming up with some design ideas for a mans quilt.

Having looked at various block designs I am torn between Jacobs Ladder and Log Cabin types. What do you all think?

Cheers

I LOVE log cabin quilts, so that's my first choice. Whatever you choose, use "manly" colors and I'm sure he will love it!

What about a quilt with houses in the blocks? And some trees in the other blocks? Here is the link. Just don't put the lights in the border. That's what I'm going to do.

My husband actually likes the D4P design as well as the log cabin. They happen to be a couple of my favorites as well.
I also thought my husband would love so-called manly colors, but he prefers bright bold colors best. I am beginning to think that i am the only one in my family that is partial to manly dark colors. lolllll

Do you know what colors he likes best?

I thought my artist son would like the bold brights, but no, he likes black/gray/white, navy and cream, the subdued combinations....go figure!

It would depend on what his preferences are. Log cabin can has lots of options in layouts that can make it more traditional or modern. If he likes more geometric/modern take, maybe you can try and D9P with some real manly colors. Do you know how he will decorate?

There are some really handsome quilt patterns with tools shapes in the blocks. Since he can build his own house, maybe he would like some tools.

Here's one with saw blades blocks.

Log cabin (no inset seams) but I love them both. JL is actually one of my favorite patterns.
