Default Whole Cloth quilt - attempt # 2

Here is my first attempt: Mini whole cloth - things I learned!

From my lessons learned, I have done the following:

1) used a marking pen to outline my quilt
2) used stencils for my design

This is where I am right now ... still pondering how to fill in all that empty space

Suggestions are quilt welcome! I'm thinking of doing the outline in a soft yellow and then the background in white ...

Your pattern looks fantastic. Use a crosshatch to fill in and it will look wonderful. Just MHO.

I would do micro stippling or small pebbles in the center area. I think a cross hatch will fight against your corner motifs in that area. Outside of that cross hatching would work well.

I would do a diagonal crosshatch in your empty spaces after you do an echo around your feathers etc. I would not add anything to your medallion area in the middle at least until you have finished some of your design, it looks like it will be perfect as it is.
Great design! Makes me want to run to my machine and start quilting ;-) .

I think the center is finished just the way it is. outside of it, I would echo your design & straight line from the medallion line to the border. Just a narrow distance of maybe 1/16". Look at some of Lisa Calle's stuff to see what I'm talking about. If you're using rulers, it's not hard to do, just time consuming.

Hello Marian, Your new wholecloth looks great!! I would suggest 80/20 batting and wool batting on top of that to get the extra loft. Some of the other suggestions about what to quilt are very good. I would (and do most of the time) quilt the background areas very heavily and use various “fills”. The Lisa Calle suggestion was very good. I have taken her class on iquilt. I always blend my thread with the fabric. I am not very brave to have my thread “showing”. :-). I am looking forward to seeing how this turns out. Ellen

Rhonda K knows what kind of sewing machine I have, and helped me out with the micro stippling ... I like it!

I am wondering if I should do something in the middle of the petals for the flowers ...

Here's what I have so far ... it's a long process, but I now understand how people do this (not by hand!!!)

And a bit further away
