Now I am using distilled water in this new Sunbeam and will see how that goes. I want one that lasts using our normal country water. It seems like all appliances that need water out here clog up pretty fast. Can't count how many coffee pots we have gone thru even with the cleaning of different cleaners, including the vinegar treatment. UGH!
I use distilled water in my iron as I have hard water as well. It works great! I spent big $$'s on a Rowenta and decided to take good care of it with distilled water!!

Reliable Iron. It's semi pricey but the best iron on the market.

Here is a review:

I have the B&D Classic and it heats up fast and gets very hot but it spits water and it's only a year old. I use it for dry ironing.

I quit using the steam on my iron and just use a spray bottle. That way you don't need to worry if you have hard water building up on your iron.
I have a cheaper black and decker that I have had for quite some time.

My problem too. I've taken to using the little travel iron, but am so used to auto shut off that I find I've left it on for days!! It's a horrible thing to discovery when all the "could've happened" start running thru your mind.

I have a little travel iron I use for quilting now and I love it. very light and easy to use on a little ironing board i have set up on my sewing table.

I have a Rowenta that DH bought me and paid a terrible price, It sits on a shelf unused. I hate it. I have a black and decker spent $20. on it an use it all the time. I also plug my iron into a surge protector which has a red light on it so I can immediately see if my iron is on or not.

If I was buying a new iron, this is what I would buy.

I have a Rowenta 1600 watt iron and love it. I got it Kohl's. They have some great sales and always send you coupons in the mail if you have/use their charge card.

Can you tell me why you hate it Micpa? I'd like to look into Rowenta; it seems fairly popular.

Thanks everyone for your comments. They are extremely helpful!
