OK! I've always been a big fan of Connecting Threads thread. Never had any issues. Lately I've been wondering what your favorite thread for FMQ is? Thought I might spread my horizons :-D

I love to use variagated threads for my FMQ. Connecting threads used to have variagated threads. I use their thread all the time. I also use YLI and some Star and Superior threads.

For FMQ I love Wonderful and Aurifil varigeated threads! My machine loves them too. I don't think my machine likes the Connecting Threads too much. I do use them for piecing though - don't want to waste 2 multi-packs of them. I'm sure there are others that my machine will like, I just haven't tried too many others yet.

I just got a used Bernina 180E sewing machine and did some FMQ with regular Gutterman thread and it did fine. On the same project, I used some pink embroidery thread and could see all the bobbin stitches on the top. I just took them out last night and haven't redone the stippling with Gutterman yet. I am just as interested in hearing people's opinions on what kinds of threads to use for FMQ.

always test sew a different thread than you have been successful in your machine.

We don't have many choices when it comes to thread selection, so I use what's available (mainly spun polyester imported from China). When someone has traveled down I have had them bring me the CT cotton spools and love them. We also are able to buy some nice embroidery threads here and they have worked well for machine quilting, especially the variegated ones. Regardless of the thread, what I have found especially useful is to use Sewer's Aid - that's always on my list of supplies for people to bring down!

Thanks for the input! Has anyone tried King Tut thread or Sulky?

I like the varigated thread, too. The first time was on a black/white/red quilt...I used black/white varigated. I started to complain because I couldn't SEE what I'd done...........then it dawned on me...that meant people couldn't SEE the mistakes!!! LOL

Your pink bobbin thread would probably work just fine if you adjust the tension. If you're seeing bobbin thread on the top, loosen the top tension. I've used Bottom Line and So Fine with no problem after a bit of adjustment.
