I wouldn't paint it at all.
I would just make a slip cover quilt and put it over the original.
That looks like an antique.

I love the chair. Cant imagine it painted white, tho. Your quilt on the bed is beautiful. Maybe carry out the
pattern and colors.

I have a chair just like that I have recovered it twice in the last 40 years. They are easy to recover. The first time it was a home Ec project.

Just because an item is old or an antique does not make it worth a lot of money. If you wish to paint it, then paint it. I've seen pics of many furniture makeovers where they have painted the furniture and it looks FANTASTIC afterward. I've done several pieces myself. You need to do what you need to do to make the chair VALUABLE TO YOU!

Good luck with your new project and please show a pic when you are done! :)

Personally I like the look of natural wood and especially on this chair. It's gorgeous (except for the present upholstry). For the era of this chair, paint would not have been used--my opinion. Love the lines of the wood pieces.

You got a wonderful deal on this one!

Don't know that I'd paint it , but I like natural wood, redid one once with light colors, seemed like it was dirty looking all the time,(think my favorite color is dirt/dust) what way it shows less, what ever you do the woodwork is great!! good price !! have fun !! win win win :)
and yes post pics ;)

Your chair will be gorgeous, but I agree about catheral windows - they won't stand up to much wear on the chair.
I like the moda one can't wait to see the end result

I have dealt with some antiques in the past. This chair looks like a valuable piece. Check it out for markings and then also take it to a local antique dealer to make sure about it even if you don't find a marking. If it is valuable, you don't want to change it.
It will be your choice, of course, so make sure the value is in a range you would be willing to lose.
