Cathedral window was the first quilt I ever made. The instructor said it was not a quilt.(It had to have batting.) I brought her a dictionary that said"a quilt is 2 or more fabrics sewn together in a decorative pattern". If this doesn't qualify what does? I lost the first in a house fire but the second is my "summer quilt".(queen size)

Good for you! I discovered Cathedral Windows about a year ago and got hooked fast. I do machine sew the blocks together and then fold them and sew them together and put the "window" in all by hand. It is relaxing and, like you sat, it is something I can in the evening with my husband watching TV etc. I made a black and cream one as a Christmas gift for my son and DIL; they loved it! It was about a 18" wall hanging and he's making a cherry frame for it to hang it.

My DD made one several years ago and I am considering trying one. I am playing with the idea of scraps for the back and white for the windows. wonder what that would look like? Should probably try a small one first to see what I think

You're right, CW is addicting. I have completed 4, all hand work. My favorite pattern.

I too sometimes wish for a hand project for the evenings in front of the TV. I've thought of GFG as a project but not Cathedral Windows. Hmmm...

I've done two large cathedral window quilts--queen sized. One by hand and one by machine. I enjoyed doing both. Absolutely. The hand one I did a lot of while on a vacation trip and mostly I had to just kind of babysit an older lady.

It IS addicting. And beautiful!
