Default New and Full Price? or Dated and On Sale? or "Thrift" ?

http://www.quiltingboard.com/main-f1...c-t287926.html

This is sort of a spin-off from the above thread.

Which type of shopper are you for fabric?

Do you buy when a fabric line first comes out and you "want it now" and pay full price?

Do you wait for sales or shop the lower priced outlets (fabric warehouse, etc.)

Do you mind waiting until your LQS has a sale or puts some fabric on clearance?

Do you shop "big box" stores? (I have seen very decent fabric at some of them)

Do you shop thrift shops and yard sales?

I am now a yard/garage sale shopper. I have great "won't power" when a fabric is full-priced. When it is something I like at a yard sale and it is really priced inexpensively ($1.00 or less) - I go crazy!

I don't do much thrift shop or yard sales for fabric because there is almost never anything usable here. I don't "do" fabric lines, or follow any particular designer. I buy fabric that pleases me, usually with a plan in mind, not "just because". And I shop wherever I can find what I want. If that ONE shade of red I need happens to get found at Walmart and is decent quality, I'm BUYING it there! I am not nor ever will be a fabric snob. And I don't buy pre-cuts as a general rule. Had some gifted to me and I'm STILL trying to figure out what to do with them! Drives me nuts.

I am on the fabric moratorium thread on the QB so purchasing fabric is a luxury any more. I try to support the LQS but also buy at Joann. Generally, I buy now to supplement a project or fit in some missing pieces or backing.

With me it all depends. I debated on purchasing some fabric a couple years ago. I bought 2 1/2 yds. of it. I was glad I did. It was gone 2 weeks later. I still have some left over. Same way at other sales. A LQS near me is having a retirement sale. Much of the fabric has been picked over. A lot of panels left but I'm not a big panels type gal. I have to be looking for a certain type. I usually have something specific in mind when I shop.

I'm definitely a thrift store/ yard sales shopper as a rule! It's amazing what you can find on the right day, at the right time! I wish I could support LQS and buy brand new, but raising a young family on one income has made me appreciate our grandmothers who quilted with what they had on hand. My MIL gives me anything she isn't using, so that has been a great help for my stash.

I don't really do fabric lines, but in the past I have splurged and bought a charm pack of fabric lines.

I watch on-line stores for sales, but generally convince myself that I can manage without when they do have a sale.... Sigh! (The joys of being tight-fisted!)

Its not "tight-fisted", its "frugal shopping"! My brother tells me I pinch pennies so hard I make Lincoln squeal.

I am not a just because buyer. Unless a piece just really strikes me that I must have and will find a use for it later. I also don't stick with a line of fabrics. I prefer to mix and match from wherever I find what I am like looking for. As for yard sales, I have never had luck there. But, I have friends that do find goods for me. They don't sew but know I will use the fabrics somewhere. Love those friends.

I am trying to only purchase fabric that is needed to supplement what I have. But, if I really, really like it I will buy it. I have purchased my stash at the LQS, online, and at garage sales. I try to only buy on sale.
I have a few favorite lines of fabric that I like. I usually mix them in with stash fabrics.

I tend to buy fabric I fall in love with. I love to shop my local quilt store, with a coupon or a sale but have also been known to walk in and buy a bunch of coordinating fabrics full price because I loved them sooooo much!

i buy a lot of fabric at garage sales too. Many good deals are found there and I have quite a stash of 30s fabrics from sales.

I recently bought about 25-30 yards at Hobby Lobby because there were gobs of coordinating fabrics marked down to $4 and less per yard.

I get what catches my eye, when I have a few $$ to spare. No yard sales, or the like because no car. I do love shopping online. I hit a few buttons and a package comes to my house.
