Default New To Jelly Rolls

Since I am a newbie quilter, I am new to precuts. I am anxious to use a jelly roll. I have seen some beautiful ones by Moda that I would love to have. The problem is I need a book/pattern to use. I don't have a LQS so I order my books from Amazon.com (they have everything). So I would lilke some suggestions for books.......which ones are your favorites.

many easy videos with patterns - Check out Jenny Dolan...I just made the 3 dude quilt. I do better watching a video or looking at a picture on line to figure out how to do them.

I did a jelly roll race on Super Bowl Day at the LQS. This was a pattern that we attached a square at the end of each strip and added another strip and kept going until all 40 strips and the blocks were all in one long line. Then we cut off 12-20 inches off the first end and then attached the two ends together long way until we met the end again--you have to cut them apart at the end. Then you sew those two ends together again and so on and until you get the size quilt you want. I have one more border to add to mine and then I will take a pic of it and post it here. Also 3 Dudes one is awesome too.

Moda has a site with FREE patterns dedicated to precuts. It's called the Moda Bake Shop:
http://www.modabakeshop.com/
Look thru the patterns (recipes) & find one you like!
As far as books go, I like "Layer Cake, Jelly Roll & Charm Quilts":
http://www.amazon.com/Layer-Cake-Jel...ly+roll+quilts
Amazon has several inexpensive used ones listed.

I've found some great free patterns here http://www.quilterscache.com/

Also read some of the quilters blogs, some have detailed instructions on how to make something.

If you're set on getting books, I like to read the reviews on Amazon to see what people have to say about the books. Maybe try your library to look at books to see if it's something you really need/want to purchase.

Liz Katsuro at www.jellyrollfabrics.net has free patterns made with jelly rolls and several books that feature customer's quilts made with jelly rolls. It is a great place for ideas and free patterns.

I love jelly rolls and all precuts - I have several books by Pam and Nicky Lintott - that are specifically for jelly roll quilts - I have made many quilts with their books - otherwise you can find many free patterns online - especially at Moda Bake Shop - that is one of the best sites for pre-cuts - lastly, check out Missouri Star Quilt Co. Jenny Doan has several youtube videos using pre-cuts - she has several great ideas. Good luck.

Jelly Roll Sampler Quilts by Pam & Nicky Lintott is what I'm using too. This is my first jelly roll quilt, I'm really enjoying it.
