Welcome from rural Maryland. If you machine quilted your quilt you could make it like a pillowcase and just turn it right side out and stitch an inch or so from the outside edge all the way around. That makes a perfectly finished sturdy binding in a very short time. That is the way I do all of my Linus quilts as well as anything for a child that will get washed a lot. I like to use a decorative stitch even if it is only a zig zag.

I hope you enjoy quilting as much as the rest of us. It is a very rewarding hobby.
