Post New to site and quilting

I'm Regina and I am new to quilting and eager to learn but dont know really where to start yet. I have done a few rag quilts and bandana quilts but that was about 4 years ago. Since then I have become legally blind. I am thinking about doing a flannel rag quilt and I am looking in second hand stores and such where I can get free flannel shirts to do this. Any suggestions from anyone

    Thanks in advance
    Regina

flannels and homespuns are both good choices for raggy quilts- choose the shirts by feel- if they feel good they are good
don't rule out dresses/jumpers/skirts- you can get alot of nice fabric out of a skirt/jumper!
i generally wash everything in hot water as soon as i get it home from the thrift store- before de-constructing- then cut them up- put together your blocks/raggy quilt- then after clipping wash & dry again.

Welcome to the group and to quilting! How much can you see of the fabric? I had a friend that was legally blind and could knit even tho she could just barely see the item she was working on. She loved it.

Welcome to the board! I agree with CKCOWL "don't rule out dresses/jumpers/skirts- you can get alot of nice fabric out of a skirt/jumper! i generally wash everything in hot water as soon as i get it home from the thrift store- before de-constructing- then cut them up- put together your blocks/raggy quilt- then after clipping wash & dry again. I hope you find the help, inspiration and friendship on this board that I've found. Truly an amazing group of people to interact with.

You are smart to look at other sources other than fabric stores for your learning material. Nothing is more heart breaking than buying nice new material and messing it up. You'll do just fine. I'm a new quilter and new to the site also (Joined in Nov.) and I've learned a lot from these smart people and they are aways ready to help. Welcome from Arkansas.
