I am thinking about hosting either another block swap or a quilt along. I'm torn between a few different ideas and would appreciate some feedback to see where your interests are.

For possible block swaps:

scrappy double Irish chain
scrappy double four patch
scrappy triangles (free tutorial from Film in the Fridge)
...do you see a pattern here???
Celtic Twist block (free pattern from McCalls)

For possible quilt alongs -
Burgoyne Surrounded - free pattern by Lyn Brown
Giant scrappy Labyrinth Star

I like the idea of a scrappy sew along....my scrap box is over flowing.

Burgoyne Surrounded looks good. I'm all scrappied out but it looks like people can do it as a scrappy if they want to.

Scrappy is good! And sew-alongs don't incur the postage costs that swaps do. Just a thought.

I have been thinking of a Burg Sur for my red scraps. This would be a great way to get one started!

Scrappy sew along would be fun. And like Sewbizgirl mentioned that a sew along would save on postage.

While it is really fun to exchange blocks, I prefer sew alongs as I prefer to press my seams open and I know that bothers other people -- and it bothers me to press to the side! I know a lot of what I do is because I'm used to it, but I've really tried to embrace pressing to the side and I don't see how y'all do it. Well yeah, I know how to do it... just I'm not happy with the results either in precision or lumpiness or what happens when you sew one white piece to another white piece.

Don't really want to derail this discussion, but basically I feel pressing to the side is simply a left over artifact from hand piecing, and with machine piecing (not to mention plug in irons with heat controls) there is no reason most of the times to press to the side. There are times when even I do it -- but not often!

Right now I'm in the middle, (and struggling) with the Cabin in the Woods, a free pattern from Debbie McInnis. I've done all of hers except the appliqued one. I just don't do that.

This pattern is now available on a CD for $$, I think $15.00. But when I signed up last summer it came free. Then there are several places you can share your progress. I'm learning a lot and getting better with my sloppiness. It's on point with cornerstones which is my favorite.

I'd probably vote for a sew-a-long as the costs of postage are never recovered.
