then there's the gal who "offered" to LET me make some quiltSSSS for her "because you like to sew and that'd give you something to do"! As for any restitution for her generosity of LETTING me make some quiltSSS for her, she said she'd get me a doll ...something or other... like what she makes, which is nothing I'm interested in at all. Guess she thought I'd jump at that oh-so-tempting offer! UGH

when I don't want to make something for someone I am quit honest about it and tell them no. i am asked to do alteration very often. I flat tell them that i do not do alterations. it is very easy for me to say no.

When I tell them the cost of the fabric, paying to have it quilted and what I charge for my time, they change their minds !! Most of them just want something cheap or free !!!

I have been a crochet teacher in our school districts for many years and cannot get over how people just EXPECT you to donate your time and supplies to give them. There are those rare exceptions, of course. People certainly don't have a CLUE how long crochet projects take and I would definitely say that quilting requires MUCH MORE time, energy and materials. We have to be assertive; the other person certainly is. I think quoting a price and time of wait is excellent and will indeed drive out all but the serious person.

I love it! That should turn someone off with the gaul to ask for a quilt.

This is frustrating. But all the responses were great. Don't be afraid to say no.

If for some reason you cant say NO, how about printing out a list of your prices to do sewing for other folks, blown up of course, and present it to those who ask you to sew for them. And increase the prices about 10 to 1...
