No I was taught to never use anything sharp to open anything that could be cut and damaged by a cut. I will say, there are times whenI almost think about it and stop myself.

Just a thought, have you thought of complaining to the company on how the item was packaged? They may compensate you someway and at the very least change their packaging ways.
I don't see that it was the problem of the packaging company--but they could have put "warning--open carefully" on the outside. It can't be their responsibility, though, can it?

Well put, LTeachergeorge!

If it's a little hole, just a little appliqued something will do the trick. It's not a mistake, it's an opportunity!

I got a bolt of Kona that had a couple of holes in the middle. we just problem solved around them. Kind of like what I just had to do. I ran out of fabric and only had a couple of smaller pieces to finish cutting out. so I took a few scraps I found in the trash and pieced enough to cut out what I needed. a few extra seams will never be noticed and it made me feel good to fix it so cheaply and easily.

Well, I haven't had that exact experience, but it certainly sounds like something I would do!

I have made pieced backings on a couple of quilts and really like the "look" of it. Good luck!

I haven't done that particular thing, but have done others just as bad. Life goes on.

I am so sorry.
I have not had a package in a while, but when I do get something I will be extra careful.
GOD bless.
