Can you turn it on its head and see if the screw falls out? That would be my first reaction.

Last time I cleaned my Janome 3160 I found a 1/4" foot down inside it. I used a long thin magnet to get it out.

when i take the screws out to clean the 301A i always have a loop of the blue tape (painters tape that we use to hold quilt back in place while layering) on my machine and i stick the screws to that tape until ready to return to their proper holes.

I did the eact same thing and screw is resting comfortably down there and I am still sewing...

I have the 6500. Do Not put a magnet anywhere near your machine. If you don't need to use the machine today why not call the dealer tomorrow. Explain you do not live close and could he help you take care of this over the phone.

This is a great subject...we should all write to Jamone and tell them they should redesign their plates without screws for future machines.
