If there is any history to this...Why is a Lincoln's Platform called a Lincoln's Platform? Anything to do with Abraham Lincoln?

Thanks

That's interesting, I've never heard this monkey wrench/churn dash/shoo fly/ hole-in-the-barn-door block called Lincoln's platform. Barbara Brackman is amazing!

OMG, my late aunt gave me some old blocks she had been given. One of my quilting instructors looked at the shirting fabric they are made of and said they are over 100 years old. I knew the pattern as churn dash but now I am thinking the person who made them may have called it Lincoln's Platform. Thanks for all the history links. This is fascinating!

This is terrific info...duh, I should have thought to look it up. Thanks very much for the links. My father is a Lincoln buff and I thought it would be great to make him a lap blanket with that pattern.
