I've done it several times...I just heat to hotest point and then just take a wad of old fabric and rub it right off.

I have hubby save me used dryer sheets just for this purpose. Learned that trick when youngest son wanted to be Buzz Lightyear for halloween about 8 years ago or so... and got wonderunder all over the place... used dryer sheets cleaned it right up, recycle-repurpose-reuse! :)

When my iron got gunky the Magic Eraser was the only thing that worked, and it worked really fast with little effort on my part.

I got that mess on my shiny iron and my husband cleaned it for me. Took him almost an hour with a lot of scraping and goof off and finally some buffing compound. I was told to NOT do that again.

Ditto! I keep one by my large iron and one by my applique iron.

I did that last month to my brand new iron, tried Magic Eraser, no luck, tried Goo Gone, no luck. DH asked what I was doing and said "wait a minute". He came back in with Fondue Cleaner and it came off without a hitch. Yes, Fondue Cleaner and it is available at your grocery store. All I can say is " Thank God for smart Husbands"
