I'm with Boston1954. I use old thread for piecing a lot.

I've never had a problem using old thread - when I run across some at a garage sale I snap it up. With the current price of thread so high, if I can get 40 spools for $5 I'm not going to turn that down.

I use all my old threads and they are the brands you listed.

Those brands should all pass the tug test. Polyester wears like iron. It's old cotton thread that I am leery of.

I feel too, that old thread is just fine, unless it has been in a place where it could get wet. Some of that old thread might well be of better quality than the newer stuff.

Threads can still be very good although old, some brand new threads can be bad. Age isn't the deciding factor. Do a tug test, if it's strong enough it's usable.
