I'm 54 yo now but remember fond memories of learning to sew on my great grandmothers old tredle machine. It purred like a kitten.

Congrats on your new treadle sewing machine.

If your sewing machine is a Singer brand, you can download a certificate and find out a little history on the year your sewing machine was born. You will need to provide them with the Serial number, it is worth checking out.

Go to the singer website, type in your number and a whole list will come up. You will be able to find out where and when your machine was made. Congratulations!

My grandmother had a treadle and she would let me "sew" on it when I was a kid. Maybe the fact that I was a gangly, uncoordinated kid has something to do w the fact I could only make it sew in reverse. My feet just didn't have the rythm - wonder how I'd do today. Bet I know, I still have the same feet. :/

Have fun with Her. We bought one at an estate sale last month DH said it was a late birthday present. So far we've sanded the wood and stained her then used Tung oil on her ( what a shine with just one coat)We are doing the work ourselves as we are on a very tight budget. She is a beauty.
